Great article Jay!! love the breakdowns.

I think the obvious solve for this is to stay out of the box. That is easier said when you see how the yotes continually abuse the kings with their speed and skill. Most of the penalties taken against the yotes are caused by getting caught flat footed, trying to use a stick to make a play rather than skating or just a dumb O zone penalties.

I would suggest not taking penalties but let's face it, that is not going to happen.

SO what is the answer? ... stay in position, be on the right side of the puck, if you are going to pinch, it has to be done with a great deal of conviction. Take the body at every chance you get and literally slow them down. take away there stretch passes through the neutral zone.

Another way to win... convert your chances. I would say we need to see some players show up tonight who haven't been bad but then again not really contributing too much, namely: Carter Pearson and Gaborik (not even going to mention Brown)

Some other keys to the game? McBain not getting sucked out to the point on every cycle in the D zone. McNaab not making dumb lazy passes through the middle of the ice and Nolan learning how to accept a pass on his backhand

The practice lines from this morning were as follows:

Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Brown-Lecavalier-Lewis
King-Shore-Nolan
Extras: Clifford-Andreoff

Muzzin-Doughty
Martinez-Schenn
McNabb-McBain

Some tweaks could be made here - swap lewis and King, but I think Vinny would do better if the guys he was passing to had better hands, how ever in the bottom 6 brown and King have the best hands of the other 2 options.

and for the love of all that is holy .... MCNAAB AND MCBAIN AS A PAIRING?!?!?!?!

Cue the congo line to the front of the net - Ari - 8 LA - 2

It's a CONGA line, not a CONGO line, unless you want to see a bunch of African gorillas standing in a queue.

McNabb and McBain will likely only get 10-12 minutes of ice time, and those minutes will be heavily protected. After losing 3 in 4, it looks like Sutter is going the way of Chicago last postseason and stacking his most reliable defensemen in the top two pairings.

I can deal with your correction and your insight, that is not bad if those are the only 2 issues you have with several takes I put out there. I consider this a good day on hockey buzz for me then.

I like the defense pairs. If that's what it'll be. Except McBain that doesn't look promising

Yea, I feel like there really is no way to argue with "please take less penalties" or "please score on your shots."

finally caught a couple of breaks on flinging pucks to the net. domingue was clearly fighting the puck by the time he got the hook.

What bugs me the most about those 2 goals is that now all the Brown-nosers will clamor about how he scored two goals in a game (even though they were meaningless in a 6-2 drubbing) and how he is so valuable to this team... nevermind how he singlehandedly blew around all his linemates several times over several shifts all night long while he took the puck for a skate only to lose it or make a terrible pass or turnover to kill the shift... The man is terrible on so many levels.

Funny thing about that is jimmy fox thought he played a great game and was very influential in the outcome of the game.

What's even more funny are the things we as fans will tell ourselves to rationalize a position we've previously taken. It's obvious that you feel a certain way about brown but if ur statement is what you really think about the way he played last night then it seems to me that you're incapable of being objective in regards to brown.

Don't like his cap hit? Fine. To say he didn't play well last night is ridiculous.

Go kings.

Ok, objectively, he played a great game for a 4th liner. that's what he's become. There are several 4th liners who are "on" for a game and move up and down the lineup. Sure am glad DB played a whale of a game last night.

lol...if you say so killer. Can't imagine how much fun it must be for you to watch someone you so clearly dislike be so respected and appreciated by the coaches, players and entire organization of your favorite team.

wrong. I don't dislike him, I'm sure he's a great person, gives back to the community and all that peachy stuff, what I don't like is the things he does with the puck on a pretty consistent basis. His game is built to play with 3rd/4th line checkers nowadays. Or better yet, let me ask you who you would rather have with the puck on their stick? Brown or Kopitar? or Brown or Carter? For me, in both cases, it's not Brown. And yet, no matter who he is on the ice with, he is determined to skate the puck up and into the zone himself and then proceed to puck handle when more skilled puck handlers are out on the ice with him... It's not a lot of fun watching him create turnover after turnover when he could've very easily given the puck up to Kopitar before he even crossed the red line. but maybe creating quality chances isn't your thing? You might just like watching guys in Kings sweaters trying to hustle back to cover his turnovers...

Wrong? Lol. I'll go ahead and be captain obvious for you and point out that I'm talking about the player and not the person when we're talking about liking him or not. I'm just going to assume that he didn't steal your baby's sucker or kick your dog...but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

To the rest I'll pass on buying ur anecdotal evidence and go with the numbers(possession) and what the players and coaches say and do.

You see, I could point out the huge check on Connor Murphy, or the couple of penalties DB drew or the numerous other "little things" he does that the brown haters love to act like don't matter...that is until you start talking about kopi...then all of a sudden "watching guys in kings sweaters back checking" and doing all the little things suddenly become "sexy".

Look, I'm loosing steam but I guess my ultimate point is great story but I'll pass on the he's so terrible in so many different ways and go with my own conclusions and that of the people who know(players, coaches & manegment).

Maybe I haven't expressed it clearly but I do respect the passion bud. I obviously disagree with ur opinion on this one but that certainly doesn't make me right so good on ya and go kings!

I thought Dustin Brown was one of the best players on the ice for either team last night.
